Mission East Dallas was established in 2002 to meet the health care needs of uninsured/underinsured residents living below 200% of the federal poverty level in eastern Dallas County. The organization was conceived from the vision and efforts of Shiloh Terrace Baptist Church, Lakeside Baptist Church, St. Pius X Catholic Church and Casa View Baptist Church, after the results of a survey taken in 1999 revealed that within a five mile radius 50,000 people were without health insurance. Through a donation of property, equipment and supplies, volunteers organized to rebuild an abandoned Nazarene Church, transforming it into a medical and dental clinic.
